Parent-Child Therapy in Limassol
Parent-child therapy in Limassol is a ten-session programme for parents and guardians of children up to age 12, split into two distinct pathways: one focused on strengthening emotional connection and attachment, the other on structured behavioural strategies for children whose difficulties are linked to ADHD.
Strengthening the Bond Between You and Your Child
The relationship between a parent and child is the most powerful predictor of a child's emotional wellbeing. When that connection feels strained by behaviour challenges, life changes or accumulated frustration, both parent and child suffer. Our parent-child therapy in Limassol gives you the tools, understanding and supported practice to repair, deepen and protect that bond.
Designed and delivered by Dr George Efraem, Chartered Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist, our parent-child therapy in Limassol is available in two forms to suit different family needs.
Two Pathways, One Foundation
Parent-child therapy in Limassol is offered as two distinct pathways, depending on what your family needs. Both run over ten weekly sessions, but they draw on different clinical models and serve different purposes.
ADHD-Focused Parent-Child Behavioural Programme
This pathway forms part of the behavioural modification component of our ADHD assessment and therapy approach. It is designed for parents and guardians of children whose defiance, non-compliance or conflict is closely linked to ADHD, drawing on established behavioural parent training principles adapted into our own structured programme.
This pathway is suitable if you are looking for:
Practical strategies for reducing daily conflict and defiant behaviour linked to ADHD
Clearer, more effective ways of communicating expectations to your child
Consistent approaches to consequences and rewards that fit your family
Support easing tension around homework, routines and household rules
Better communication and problem solving between you and your child
A plan for maintaining progress once things start to improve
Sessions build gradually, moving from strengthening your relationship and reducing conflict toward more structured behavioural strategies, then problem solving and longer-term maintenance. Pacing and focus are adapted to your child's age and the severity of the difficulties you are experiencing.
Relational Parent-Child Therapy
The second pathway is our general parent-child programme, focused on strengthening emotional connection, empathy and attachment between you and your child. It is suitable for parents and guardians of children up to age 12 who are:
Struggling with frequent power battles, meltdowns or defiance
Worried about their child's emotional development or behaviour
Feeling exhausted, judged or unsure about their parenting
Navigating life transitions (divorce, new sibling, relocation)
Wanting to repair the relationship after a difficult period
Seeking to enrich an already strong bond with deeper empathy
Across the ten weeks, you will learn to read your child's emotional cues with greater accuracy, respond to distress without escalating, set boundaries that feel firm and kind at the same time, repair after rupture, and build the secure attachment that underpins lasting emotional wellbeing.
Why Empathy is the Foundation
Whichever pathway suits your family, empathy remains the foundation. Decades of attachment and developmental research confirm that children develop best when they feel genuinely understood, and the ADHD-focused programme builds structure and consistency on top of that same empathic base rather than in place of it. This combined approach has been shown to:
Reduce symptoms of childhood anxiety
Lower rates of childhood depression
Improve emotional regulation in children
Reduce parental stress
Build secure attachment that protects long-term mental health
Reduce oppositional behaviour when delivered as part of ADHD intervention
How We Decide Which Pathway Is Right for You
During your initial assessment, Dr George Efraem will discuss your child's presentation, your family's goals, and whether ADHD-related behaviour is a central concern. Where appropriate, the two pathways can also be blended, drawing on relational and behavioural strategies within the same programme.
Delivery Options
Both pathways are offered in person at our Limassol practice and partly online via Zoom, flexible to fit around family schedules. Either can stand alone, or complement your child's individual therapy or ADHD assessment and therapy, particularly where anxiety, behavioural difficulties or attachment concerns are also present. Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child attend the sessions?
The programme is primarily designed for parents and guardians. However, some sessions may include guided parent-child interaction work depending on what is most therapeutically useful. We will discuss the structure with you at the outset.
Do both parents need to attend?
Both parents attending is ideal, since consistency across caregivers significantly strengthens outcomes. However, single-parent participation is equally welcome and effective.
How is this different from a parenting course?
Group parenting courses share general information. Parent-child therapy in Limassol is individual, tailored to your specific child and your specific parenting context, whichever pathway you follow.
Can this help with my child's behaviour problems?
Yes. Most behavioural difficulties in children are either relational or benefit from structured behavioural strategies, and often both. By changing how you respond, or by introducing consistent structure and consequences, you change the dynamic that maintains the behaviour.
Which pathway is right for my child?
If ADHD-related defiance or conflict is a central concern, the ADHD-focused behavioural programme is usually the better starting point. If the difficulty is more about connection, communication or repairing the relationship generally, the relational pathway is usually the right fit. We will help you decide during your assessment.
Is the ADHD-focused programme only for children with a formal diagnosis?
No. It is suitable for children with a confirmed ADHD diagnosis as well as those showing clear ADHD-related traits where defiant or oppositional behaviour is a central concern. This is discussed and confirmed during assessment.
Is online parent-child therapy in Cyprus available?
Yes. Most sessions can be delivered online via secure Zoom for families across Cyprus including Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca and surrounding areas. We typically recommend at least the first session in person if possible.
