Is my child struggling?
Signs it may be time to seek support
As a parent, knowing when to reach out for professional help can feel difficult and uncertain. Here are some common signs that your child may benefit from speaking with a psychologist:
They seem persistently anxious, fearful or on edge — more than seems typical for their age
They have become withdrawn, tearful or lost interest in things they used to enjoy
They are having frequent emotional outbursts or episodes of aggression that are hard to manage
They are refusing to go to school, avoiding friends or struggling to leave the house
Their sleep, appetite or behaviour has changed significantly without a clear medical reason
They have experienced something upsetting — a bereavement, trauma, family change or bullying
You have concerns about their development, attention or how they are managing socially
If you are seeing two or more of these signs — or your instinct as a parent is telling you something is not right — a free 15-minute chat with Dr George Efraem can help you understand what your child may be experiencing and what support is available.
FAQs
How much does a child psychologist cost in Cyprus?
1
Session costs vary depending on the type of support and programme. At Empathic Psychologist we offer transparent, structured programmes — full pricing details are available on our Cost & Pricing page. You can also request a free 15-minute introductory chat before committing.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
2
A psychologist (like Dr George Efraem) is trained in psychological assessment and therapy, helping children and families through talking therapies and evidence-based approaches. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication. For most childhood difficulties — anxiety, ADHD, behavioural concerns, trauma — psychological therapy is the recommended first step.
How long does child therapy take to work?
3
Most children and families begin noticing positive changes within 6–8 sessions. Our structured programmes typically run over 12–24 weeks, and we track progress throughout so you can see measurable improvements in your child's wellbeing. The exact length depends on your child's individual needs and goals.
Is child therapy available online in Cyprus?

Yes, online sessions via Zoom are available for selected services, depending on your child's age, needs, and clinical suitability. Online therapy can be a practical and effective option for families in Nicosia, Paphos, or other parts of Cyprus who cannot attend in person in Limassol.

5
You may want to consider contacting a child psychologist if your child is showing one or more of the following signs:
• Persistent worry, fear or anxiety that interferes with daily life or school performance
• Low mood, tearfulness or withdrawal from friends and activities they used to enjoy
• Frequent emotional outbursts, meltdowns or aggressive behaviour at home or school
• Difficulty concentrating, sitting still or completing tasks (possible ADHD)
• Refusing to attend school or avoiding social situations
• Significant changes in sleep, appetite or toileting without a medical cause
• Experiencing or witnessing something distressing — bereavement, trauma, parental separation or bullying
• Struggling with friendships, peer relationships or social communication
• Developmental concerns around speech, behaviour or social interaction
